Master Studies

I realized its time to start with master studies.
And with these studies I understood how much I was afraid to use saturated colors...
you can see this behavior in the first studies. fourth one is best so far and still there's so much to learn.

I have to say that the point isn't about copying. it's about understanding colors.
so of course no color pick and no tracing and no nothing.

I have to admit that I kinda cheated in the third one. in the end I used Photoshop saturation. still looks like shit. but in the fourth I had new information to avoid such tricks!
Its not bad using photoshop tools in general. but when the whole point is to learn how to pick correct colors by myself, its useless.

artists:
1 - Albert Bierstadt-Merced River,YosetimiValley
2 - Eugen Bracht
3 - Antonio Torres Fuster (Tarragona, 1874-1945)
4 - lute-player-1635-Bernardo-Strozzi

I only did 4 and already feel like I got better. :D
I need to study like my life depends on it.

color&value face study and something

I'm kind of ashamed that it looks nothing like the original, and no it's not Putin.

It's a face and value study and I probably have to give you the reference and I really don't want to because I failed so much lol...
but here it is: Reference
but I guess it's ok because I'm not looking for making portraits so it would look exactly like the original but it's a great skill that needs to be obtained over time.
after that I did another study
in this one I didn't really try to look like the original and well.. its really far from looking the same
in this study I practiced using color with multiply layer and screen layer

It looks nothing like the original: Reference

and a project for my Concept Art course
I wanted to challange myself and I did, it was very complicated for me.
Though it really doesnt look that great and I learned a lot from this piece.
I had a lot of mistakes and next time you will all see my progress
I don't like this piece... but I'll get pro

value study and a beast

A study I did to understand better tone and light
here is the reference
I kind of failed with the accuracy and I wasn't patient enough and wanted just to see the result
but I'll be doing a lot of random studies and I'll get better every time

here's a beast I did for homework

and then later I tried again but came up only with the bones and not the muscles

I'll be doing a lot more things like that and then I'll try to get a finished and polished result when I'll get a little better with this

sketch\wip

this one is really weird
no reference, started as a sketch with golden ratio and added some color that's all..
I don't think I'll finish this one...
a lot of anatomy problems but I didn't really pay attention and jumped into color because I just wanted to try out the golden ratio again

it's all about studying. Not everything has to be perfect. every time I learn something new and try not to repeat my mistakes.

but not finishing pieces isn't great as well..

A doodle and some 2 min gestures...Yeah I'm pretty slow.
Usually I draw 1 min gesture.

Destroyed Planet concept - Gallifrey - Doctor's who destroyed home

The Time War, more specifically called The Last Great Time War, is a conflict pitted the Time Lords against the Daleks.

The homework assign is about a destroyed planet.
When I started thinking about the concept I thought "Doctor who!" :D

Gallifrey was the homeworld of the Time Lords.
It had been implied that it was destroyed along with the Dalek Empire, by the Doctor during the Time War.

Weapons used by the Time Lords included Bowships, Black Hole Carriers and N-Forms
Near the planet you can see a white circle, well it's a black hole
According to "Interstellar", (a movie that I should watch!)  black holes are white (from the glowing ring around it)

It was a lot of fun to draw this

First time I used golden ratio, it's cool and I'll definitely use it again and try to understand it better

What I've been up to lately - concept art home work

For home work I need to create a model sheet
here's a progress
I know the character supposed to stand with wide opened arms but this design isn't going to be for 3d modeling anyway

I left out a lot of details but I guess it's kind of okay because the whole point is to get to know the process and learn as much as I can.

It's my personal design

so what's his thing?
His the bad guy but not from his point of view
he's just doing his job
so what if he was kidnapped as a kid to a devil worshiping family?
brainwashed to believe his duty is to bring a child into this world and use it as a vessel
so he found a pathetic woman and married her
once she brought a child he simply disappeared
It was a little girl known as the little red riding hood (yeah yeah, they told us to write a version of our own to the story and for some reason I gave it a twisted touch)
The little girl poisoned her mother's mind who was a pathetic woman to begin with
until her soul couldn't handle life anymore
The little girl offered her a deal, once she murders a family member she will become whole again
she agreed and went off to her mother's house
she murdered her like an animal
and then the hunter came in and killed the psycho
and took the little girl with him and smiled
"mission accomplished" he thought

The father is also the hunter

I need to draw some more facial expressions and some gestures of the character
oh the weapon he uses

Studies

I feel like I got worse
like I forgot how to study, how to draw
how to put all my knowledge down on a psd file or a simple piece of paper
It's hard
I had a great schedule and I had a great progress
and then it stopped
and it rolled back
It's just a feeling I had\still have
and I know I need to overcome this and get back on track
study, work hard and achieve my goals
I never believed this much in this dream of mine
and everything is possible

I didn't finish my homework yet
but here is a start

I need to do a character design and make a model sheet
I need to get into details and draw some gestures and facial expressions

here is a quick study to understand better the hip bone

analyzing this way really helps instead of just copying
if anyone sees this, I hope it helps you to study

Color Study

Here is a color study from the book "Color and Light" by James Gurney

There's a piece there by Martin Keane

The face has more complex colors, the nose and cheeks area is more red.
The zone from the nose to the chin tends towards blue or green and the forehead is more yellow.

I used a big brush and I know it doesn't look very good
and comparing to the original it's almost horrible
but it's a start
...

next color study will be better
maybe one day I'll recreate this study and we will all see the progress :P

la random drawing studies

I know the basics of drawing a head but I just felt like I need to refresh my memory and get back to studies
when I sketch faces/heads from my mind it looks kind of bad....

and here are some sketches without paying much attention to anatomy
