face studies

face studies

I think I'm getting better but I'm still lazy with the details
original: Reference

and before drawing Ian McKellen I tried to draw a random chick
and I failed so hard

looks nothing like the original
I don't know why I even care
it's not like I want to make portraits
I thought, since it's face study and I'm posting a link to the reference I have to make it a real portrait... so it would look pretty much alike...
and the whole point is just to know how to shade a face and colour it.
so I don't know...

oh I almost forget
my first attempt in Zbrush! I'm a total noob
but we had a zbrush class in College (Concept design course)
They gave us homework to make 5 heads
the first one is supposed to be a shitty one to get used to the program.
and it's supposed to be a learning process.
I just sculpted as it was simple clay
so it was kind of fun
here it is, didn't use reference (forgot to research out of excitement)
oh well... XD
it's something!

color&value face study and something

I'm kind of ashamed that it looks nothing like the original, and no it's not Putin.

It's a face and value study and I probably have to give you the reference and I really don't want to because I failed so much lol...
but here it is: Reference
but I guess it's ok because I'm not looking for making portraits so it would look exactly like the original but it's a great skill that needs to be obtained over time.
after that I did another study
in this one I didn't really try to look like the original and well.. its really far from looking the same
in this study I practiced using color with multiply layer and screen layer

It looks nothing like the original: Reference

and a project for my Concept Art course
I wanted to challange myself and I did, it was very complicated for me.
Though it really doesnt look that great and I learned a lot from this piece.
I had a lot of mistakes and next time you will all see my progress
I don't like this piece... but I'll get pro

value study and a beast

A study I did to understand better tone and light
here is the reference
I kind of failed with the accuracy and I wasn't patient enough and wanted just to see the result
but I'll be doing a lot of random studies and I'll get better every time

here's a beast I did for homework

and then later I tried again but came up only with the bones and not the muscles

I'll be doing a lot more things like that and then I'll try to get a finished and polished result when I'll get a little better with this

Destroyed Planet concept - Gallifrey - Doctor's who destroyed home

The Time War, more specifically called The Last Great Time War, is a conflict pitted the Time Lords against the Daleks.

The homework assign is about a destroyed planet.
When I started thinking about the concept I thought "Doctor who!" :D

Gallifrey was the homeworld of the Time Lords.
It had been implied that it was destroyed along with the Dalek Empire, by the Doctor during the Time War.

Weapons used by the Time Lords included Bowships, Black Hole Carriers and N-Forms
Near the planet you can see a white circle, well it's a black hole
According to "Interstellar", (a movie that I should watch!)  black holes are white (from the glowing ring around it)

It was a lot of fun to draw this

First time I used golden ratio, it's cool and I'll definitely use it again and try to understand it better
